Imad Chehayeb

Born in Aley, Lebanon, Imad immigrated to Edmonton in 1977. He graduated with a Math degree from the University of Alberta, and then continued his studies to obtain a Mechanical engineering degree, working as a professional Engineer at National Oil-well Varco designing and building oil field equipment. 

Imad started volunteering for his community very early on, as a university student; he was a board member of the Arab Student Association on campus. After university, he along with a few friends started the Alberta Canadian Arab Cultural Club which participated in many different multicultural activities and organized annual cultural dinners.

In 1990, he started the 1st Arabic community TV program on Shaw cable called Arabesque which used to be aired weekly every Saturday and lasted for a few years. He started volunteering for the Druze Association of Edmonton in 2002 and served on the board for 14 years in different capacities. As president of the Druze Board, he created Social Sunday”, an event that is still much enjoyed today. Collaborating with all the Druze associations across Canada, He chaired the first Canadian Druze Convention in Edmonton in 2009, then the second one in 2014. Imad has been working with the World Lebanese Cultural Union Society of Edmonton since 2012 as vice chair of the WLCU trustee board; he chaired the Lebanese Pavilion at Heritage Days in 2022.
Besides caring for his family full-time, working two full-time jobs (his engineering position and his granite countertop company) and volunteering. Imad enjoys playing ping pong.
